Microsoft has launched Windows Server 2022 for some time now. This edition also features various improvements, making it the most secure and reliable OS of the moment. To consider the need to upgrade your Windows Server to one of the two versions indicated, we highlight the most relevant differences, since much has been improved but also some functions are slowly being eliminated.
Security improvement
Security is becoming more important every day, especially when it comes to servers. In Windows Server 19, Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection, also known as ATP, was added. This ensured detection of Machine Learning-based malicious files. However, Windows Server 22 did not stand still and implemented other developments. The 3 most important are:
• Root-of-trust hardware
• Firmware protection
• VBS (virtualization-based security)
Cloud management and storage
With the growing popularity of the cloud, cloud management and cloud storage are more important than ever. Enhancements such as hybrid clouds with FOD have already been implemented in Windows Server 19. Windows Server 22 makes moving to the cloud even easier with its hybrid capabilities. Windows Server 22 offers advanced cloud storage and management through the Azure-Arc environment management tool and archive migration service. These tools make it easy to move servers between cloud and VMs (virtual machines).
Some features are about to expire
As many new features have been added over the years, Microsoft has decided to leave out some "superfluous" features. The features that are no longer supported are:
• Start SConfig
• iSNS (Internet Storage Name Service)
• Shielded Virtual Machines There is no need to worry about new additions. Expired features will not be lost.
